Craft Brewer Discovered To Be The Culprit Behind A Mysterious Count Chocula Cereal Shortage

Looks like we got a groovy cereal mystery on our hands, folks. Or at least we did. Recently, an unknown individual bought up all the boxes of County Chocula cereal from two grocery stores in Fort Collins, CO., and a few local cereal fans had to go without their beloved Chocula for a few days. One local shopper noted that she was especially displeased with the whole affair. The woman, who usually eats vegetarian and organic food, wrote to The Coloradoan to say that she likes to buy Count Chocula around Halloween as a personal treat. “Every year I greatly look forward to the month of October when I can purchase a few boxes of this delicious chococlatey (sic) goodness,” she wrote. But alas, she was out of luck.

Now, my money was originally on Old Man Jenkins, the owner of the sawmill down the way (where are those meddling kids when you need them to solve a mystery?), but  the real culprit was the general manager of Black Bottle, a craft brewing company. The manager noted that the brewery makes a special Cerealiously beer series–in the past they’ve done Golden Grahams, Reese’s Puffs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch–and this year they wanted to do a spin on the Count. “We put the cereal into a hop back so it doesn’t get into the beer,” the manager explained. “We did it as a joke at first, but the beer turned out well.”

Well, the mystery’s been solved. Hooray! And it looks like that aggrieved shopper might actually get her cereal too.

“I have a couple extra [boxes of Count Chocula]. I might have to award her a box,” the manager said.
