Shipwreck Beer to be Replicated by Finnish Brewery

In 2014, Finnish brewery Stallhagen will release a beer based on examples found in a 200-year-old shipwreck in the Baltic Sea.

There is ever-increasing demand for specialty beer on the international market and we are convinced that our product is going to interest beer enthusiasts around the world,” Stallhagen’s managing director Jan Wennstroem said in a statement.

The surviving beer and champagne was still drinkable due to a combination of slightly salty water, low currents, a constant temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit, pressure from the sea and complete darkness. Samples were analyzed by the Finnish laboratory VTT, which determined its composition.
