Man Suing Starbucks and Whole Foods Over Exploding Tazo Tea

A Nashville man claims that a bottle of Tazo tea blew up in his hand on April 5th, severely damaging a tendon. Two surgeries were required to repair the damage.

Undeterred, Bernie Bublick went back to his local Green Hills Whole Foods and bought another bottle of Tazo Giant Peach tea on April 19th. Once again, that bottle exploded—this time in his shopping cart.

Bublick is suing Whole Foods and Starbucks, the manufacturer of Tazo, for an unspecified amount.

A reason for the explosions has not been publicly addressed by the companies, but one theory is that the tea underwent an unintentional fermentation that put pressure on the walls of the thin glass bottle.

This guy may be among the unluckiest people on the planet, but it’s still probably a good idea to avoid Tazo Giant Peach until the problem has been worked out.
