Uncorking a bottle of wine can be tricky business. You have to be careful not to break the cork lest it get inside the bottle and ruin the contents. And if it’s a fancy schmancy bottle, getting air inside with the wine is not ideal. Cue the Coravin 1000 system. The $300 opener uses a thin needle to pierce the cork and lets you pour and drink without bothering to remove it. I know – it’s weird.
Oxygen never gets in because the Coravin 1000 uses pressure to force wine out into the wine glass. Since the needle is so small, the cork seals itself after the needle is removed. It’s sort of like magic. That’s what you can tell your friends the first time you use it in front of them.
