Starting today, Android users will be able to enjoy the same mobile payment system currently available on iPhone and BlackBerry devices.

The Starbucks app allows users to keep track of their Starbucks Card balance, reload the card and utilize an on-screen barcode that can be scanned at the register for payment. It’s currently available as a free download in the Android Market for Android 2.1 users and above.

Starbucks has also announced that the mobile payment system will be coming to 1000 Starbucks locations inside Safeway supermarkets (including Vons, Pavilions, Dominick’s, Randalls, Tom Thumb and Genuardi’s ) starting this July.
