I used my Starbucks iPhone app to buy a coffee for the first time the other day—and it was pretty cool. In only a few years we will all be using our smartphones to make point of sale NFC transactions. However, the Starbucks barcode method falls a little short on the security front.
You see, the barcode you use to purchase the drink is static, meaning that a simple screengrab can be used to scam the machine. So, the lesson here is to passcode protect your app and never let anyone with a coffee addiction borrow your phone.
