These Japanese Candies Are All About Anime And Video Games

“Wagashi” is a type of traditional Japanese candy that’s usually served with tea. Typically, the candies have some sort of nature or animal theme (you’ll see some flowery examples below). However, Twitter user Otakumi makes wagashi that are influenced by anime and video games. Otakumi makes these candies at Kuramoto Hinode, which is a wagashi shop in Tokushima Prefecture. They’re soft and they’re made from rice-based dough and bean paste. These particular wagashi are called “nerikiri”.
