School Charges Mom Ten Bucks For Failing To Pack Ritz Crackers In Her Children’s Lunch

I admit, I’m one of those people who thinks government can help people, but I’m shaking my head at the policy at the Manitoba Government’s Early Learning and Child Care lunch regulations.

Canadian mom Kristen Bartkiw sent her kids to lunch with “leftover homemade roast beef and potatoes, carrots, an orange and some milk”. However, because that lunch didn’t contain the regulated grains, the school gave the kids some Ritz Crackers and then charged her 10 bucks.

Now, I’m not sure who imposes the fine and who thought Ritz Crackers would be a reasonable grain (especially at 5 bucks a pop), but it seems that even the school itself thought the policy was silly and has since moved to a hot lunch program.
