Booze

Sunday nights currently boast two of the best television shows currently airing: Game of Thrones and Mad Men. For taking place in completely different worlds, they have more than a couple of things in common. Neither show is overly respectful towards women, both shows have a fair amount of sex, and both shows have even more drinking.

Vulture wondered which series had the most drinks so far this season. They’ve paid close attention and tallied the number of sips of booze in a video that will make you forget about the drinking games you have scheduled for the next episodes.

Watch the scores go up and up in the video after the break.

Friendship is magic, and alcohol can be magical. These hand-etched My Little Pony shot glasses will make any drinking game at least ten times more adorable. Next time one of your buddies has a birthday, you can make him do some work before getting sh*tfaced with this birthday card that contains its own DIY shot glass. The “glass”, which more closely resembles the little paper cups used to rinse at the dentist’s office, is assembled origami style without any additional elements and can hold approximately 1 oz of liquid without leaks for hours. Two different versions are available:

The Bottle Hanger Card: The card features a diecut circle at the top to attach it to all sizes of bottle (even the enormous Absolut bottles if you mean serious business). Regular A2 Card w/ Envelope: If you know the party you are going to is already stocked, perhaps just going with a regular card is more in order. Each A2 card comes with a matching Whip Cream envelope and no top section to attach to a bottle.

Masaru Shishido, aka “Oh Red” in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger and Power Rangers Zeo, has moved from 90s TV actor to booze purveyor with a new “tokusatsu bar” focused on genre television.

The bar, located in Tokyo’s Tachikawa, will be chock full of Power Rangers memorabilia, overpriced drinks and bartenders who call each other “commander” and “captain”. Unspecified events are also planned.

Check out additional pics after the break.

This retro TV liquor cabinet is almost as awesome as the AT-AT version.

“Everything’s better with some wine in the belly.” Tyrion Lannister

Lannisters occasionally speak the truth and especially so in this case. Anna Lucylle agrees with his sentiment; she’s created a fantastic drinking game for season two of Game of Thrones. And by fantastic, I mean you’ll be flat on your face within twenty minutes. Considering how much booze is tossed back in the series, it’s only appropriate to drink along. Robert Baratheon would approve.

It’s not just enough to drink every time someone says a phrase or shows a body part though; Lucylle has customized the drinks by House. Choose your House before you begin and prepare the drinks. Take a sip or shot according to the rules. Hope that you have soft blankets nearby for when you pass out.

The University of Illinois is expending vast amounts of energy in a continuing attempt to expose the benefits of inebriation. Two months after their vodka study, researchers are now stating that certain levels of alcohol may enhance the mind’s “working memory capacity”—or the potential for creative problem solving.

Although test subjects with a blood alcohol level of .07 (just below the legal limit in most states) struggled with attention-intensive trials, they were able to solve 40 percent more “flexible thinking” questions than those who were completely sober. They also answered three and a half seconds faster, and completed their tests in 12 seconds compared to 15.5 for sober participants.

Of course, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that has loosened up socially and intellectually after a few drinks.

A Zelda-inspired punch from The Insatiable Geek:

Ingredients:
2 liters Sprite
1 liter Green Apple Soda
1 cup Vodka
1/2 cup Green Apple Liqueur
1/4 cup Lychee Liqueur

Directions: This drink is a punch meant for parties. Mix all ingredients into a punch bowl, cauldron, boiling flask, or large container of your choosing. Drink whenever you feel the need to restore your magic meter.

A note from the creators: “This has a nice apple flavor (but not too strong), and the lychee adds a nice touch of exotic. Keep in mind we used a 5 liter boiling flask for this monster. So start breaking open pots and bring your rupees to the witch’s hut… or hit up the liquor store.”
