Eat Like a Hobbit… At Denny’s. What?

In the category of marketing campaigns I never thought would happen, Denny’s announced they will be rolling out a Middle Earth-inspired menu to promote The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Did you catch that? Denny’s and Middle Earth in the same sentence. Where’s the One Ring when you need it?

“America’s Diner” will offer the Lonely Mountain Treasure, Radagast’s Red Velvet Pancake Puppies, Bilbo’s Berry Smoothie, and the Lone-Lands Campfire Cookie Milk Shake. Radagast just doesn’t strike me as the red velvet type. I mean, I don’t like Denny’s so I’m obviously a little biased. I’d be slightly more on board if they made some attempt at actually relating the food to something in the story. Stew, bread, potatoes – there are plenty of simple and more meaningful options. As it is, they’ve just picked random things and slapped a name from Middle Earth on them. And oh boy, do I have feelings about people doing that. Ugh. This menu will not be enough to get this geek to go to Denny’s.

Don’t forget to click the menu to enlarge and watch the cringe inducing commercial after the break.
