Mighty Wings, McDonalds’ experimental go at fast-food style wings, was a mighty flop. Now the restaurant is stuck with 10 million pounds of unsold inventory.
No one’s quite clear on why the wings didn’t really take off, but according to the Wall Street Journal, customers reported that the wings were a bit too spicy and expensive (especially when compared to some of the other items on the Dollar menu).
The 10 million pounds represents 20 percent of the original 50 million pounds that McDonalds originally ordered. Apparently, all of the individual franchises have been told that they must participate in another round of Mighty Wings promotions, or else they’ll have to pay for the excess inventory.
