Star Wars Cookie Cutter Review (With Recipe)

Unless you’ve been living in a space slug on an asteroid, you’ve heard about the Williams Sonoma Star Wars cookie cutters. It’s tempting to buy them just because they are Star Wars, but you might be wondering about the quality or how often you will really use them. I’ll make it easy. As long as you have a good recipe (what a coincidence, I’ve included one below!) the cookie cutters work like a charm. Sure, they’re different from classic tin cutters. Different is not bad. You can imprint and cut the cookies with just a light touch on these push style cookie cutters. Make sure you keep the surface of the dough floured though. This will keep the cookie dough from sticking to the inside of the cutter; you don’t want squished Stormtrooper faces. Cleaning is easy too. I just use warm water and a scrubby brush.

How often will you really make Star Wars shaped cookies? I’ve found that if you’re making cookies, people don’t care so much what they look like. It usually only makes people happier when they realize they can chew on Yoda’s ears (people always bite the ears off first, like with chocolate bunnies).

Sugar Cookies

1 1/2 cups butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

– In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth with hand mixer. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt by hand. Cover. Chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).

– Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with your fancy Star Wars cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

– Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely. Decorate with icing if you have the patience (I don’t).
