A visit to the Mondavi winery in Oakville, CA is a must—especially for wine novices. It’s a good first step when visiting the Napa Valley because of the importance and history of the Mondavi name in the region, and the emphasis placed on wine education during the tours.
Plus, as you will see after the break, the facilities are impressive.
During the wine tasting portion of the Signature Tour we sampled a 2008 Fumé Blanc Reserve, 2009 Moscato d’Oro, 2008 Pino Noir Reserve and a 2007 Stag’s Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon. All the wines were fantastic, especially the cabernet (it had better be at $85 a bottle). The cabernet was also paired with a sample of duck prosciutto with cherry, arugula and pistachio that packed an absurd amount of flavor into a single bite.
