If you have ever been to the Hudson Valley region of upstate New York, it is really worth the trip from a scenic, historic and culinary point of view. I grew up there, and I can say that it has some of the best food you are going to find in the US.
In fact, the eastern arm of the Culinary Institute of America is located there (in Hyde Park specifically). It’s kind of the Harvard of cooking schools—and you can actually partake in some of their expertise without spending a fortune in one of their fancy restaurants.
I personally enjoy stopping by the Apple Pie Bakery Cafe when I’m up there, and our very own Janelle Vadnais would have to agree. She stopped by there for a quick lunch while on vacation recently, and managed to snap some mouth watering photos.
BTW—if you do go I highly recommend their mac and cheese. It’s outstanding.
