Here Comes The Mufgel

Say hello to the Cronut’s slightly demented cousin: the “Mufgel”. Scot Rossillo of Brooklyn’s The Bagel Store (the same joint behind the famous rainbow bagel) semi-invented the muffin/bagel monstrosity this past July.

Rossillo noted to Gothamist that inspiration came in the form of a radio commercial that actually coined the name “Mufgel” while poking fun at crazy food trends in NYC. Yes, we’re living in a world where jokes based on food crazes become new food crazes. Nothing is sacred.

Rossillo also noted to Gothamist that he makes 42 Mufgels each day, and he usually sells out by closing time. Well, the Mufgel looks delicious, but is it just me or does the name sound like a terrible hair-care product? Check out more pics and the inspirational radio commercial below.
