This past Friday, a computer glitch opened the doors of a New Zealand grocery store at 8 AM, resulting in a store full of customers, but not a single employee. Security camera footage revealed that most of the shoppers were unaware that the store wasn’t staffed, using the store’s self-scan machines to checkout. However, some did take advantage of the opportunity, walking away with “truckloads of groceries.”
After an hour police arrived and closed the store, and the owner has since asked that the thieves voluntarily step up and pay for their items. Even though he has pledged the money to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, nobody has yet come forward.
