The Sriracha War Is Over: City Lawsuit Dropped

The potential for a widespread Sriracha shortage has been avoided now that the city of Irwindale, California has dropped its lawsuit against Huy Fong Foods and company CEO David Tran. The problems came to a head earlier this year when the factory was declared a public nuisance after residents complained about the smell causing health issues.

The city gave them six months to clean up their act, and although they said nothing was wrong with the air quality, they did install a new air filtration system inside the factory.

On Tuesday, City Manager John Davidson, Mayor Mark Breceda, Councilman Julian Miranda and two reps from Gov. Jerry Brown’s office toured the factory. On Wednesday the Irwindale City Council voted to drop the lawsuit, saying that keeping the people of Irwindale who work there gainfully employed is a priority. Huy Fong Foods can breath easy now that they’ve been granted a reprieve and the Sriracha-loving masses can continue to burn their tastebuds.
