A 17-year old named John Davis, from Edinburgh, Scotland set a speed eating record in the International Haggis Championship over the weekend. He was able to down a pound of the unsavory Scottish delicacy in two minutes.
The competition, held to raise money for Help for Heroes, saw 30 speed eaters compete for the title. John said: “It’s the first time I’ve entered anything like this and I didn’t even do any training but I had friends and family to cheer me on. The hardest thing was that you couldn’t even have any water with it.”
Yes, training for such an event generally requires months of work to attain a Bear Grylls level of focus. It involves imagining you are eating anything else than what you are actually eating, eat it as fast as possible, and do it without vomiting.
