Using a fire extinguisher and science, Food Network host Alton Brown has demonstrated how a gallon of carbonated ice cream can be created in 10 seconds flat.
The aptly-named “Jet Cream” consists of three water cooler bottles duct taped together with the fire extinguisher positioned at one end. Pressurized liquid ice cream sprays into the device, where it is subjected to the Joule-Thomson effect as it is exposed to the extinguisher’s extremely cold CO2. This causes the ice cream to freeze almost instantly—while also being carbonated.
