Tomomi Maruo is a Japanese food artist who specializes in “charaben”, which is the art of creating bento box meals representing kid’s TV show characters.
While perfecting her craft over the past several years, Maruo has fashioned edible examples of real people as well as characters such as Pikachu, Doraemon, and Totoro using mayonnaise as glue and carefully cut seaweed for features.
She’s now sharing her skills with others by teaching classes, stressing the need not only for a cute appearance, but also great taste, which is what she believes gives the process its meaning. Watch her do her thing in the very relaxing video below.
