Hoboken, New Jersey’s Tony Baloney’s is setting itself apart from other pizzerias with this massive pizza that’s topped with tacos and guacamole. Naturally, it was inspired by stoners.
Speaking with Thrillist, owner Mike Hauke recalls the moment of inspiration:
“These kids came in high as hell… stoned out of their minds,” Hauke recalls. “They were like, ‘Yo, let me get some tacos.’”
Hauke obliged by putting tacos on top of pizza—and a legend was born.
The 30-pound pizza consists of conventional pizza crust topped with Oaxaca cheese, carne asada, chipotle asada, and more cheese. After being cooked to perfection, the pie is topped again with a variety of tacos on the outer rim and sea of guacamole and sour cream in the center.
To eat the pizza, Hauke offers the following suggestions:
“Take the tacos off, dip it in the guac, move them around in the carne asada, eat the tacos, and then smear all the guac and sour cream — all that good stuff — over the pie, and eat the slice.”
The taco pizza is being offered at $80, or $10 per slice – but the steep cost hasn’t deterred customers; in fact, Hauke says there is “a line out the door for the 30-pound Taco Pizza every Tuesday.”
