food fight

Denny’s is taking their partnership with Warner Bros. to the next level. If you’ll remember, they are offering a menu inspired by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and now they’ve also sponsored a new featurette all about the meal at Bag End that marks the beginning of Bilbo’s adventures. A food stylist explains a little about the set, and then the cast of dwarfs destroys the beautiful spread (they were just following the script).

We’ve all been told not to play with our food. Fine. Let’s go with that rule. On the other hand, no one has ever told me not to fight with my food. Enter these Ninja Fighting Chopsticks from ThinkGeek that morph into deadly stick ninjas when someone tries to steal the last egg roll. These chopsticks are deceptively simple with tiny ninja eyes and little plastic arms, but just like a real ninja they’ll sneak up and strike down their enemies. The last egg roll shall be yours!

If you are unfamiliar, the Tomatina Festival is a giant tomato food fight held every year in Brunol, Spain.

From Wikipedia:

In 1944, during a parade of gigantes y cabezudos, young men who wanted to participate in the event staged a brawl. Since there was a vegetable stand nearby, they picked up tomatoes and used them as weapons. The police had to intervene to break up the fight, and forced those responsible to pay the damages incurred.

The following year the young people repeated the fight, only this time they brought their own tomatoes from home. They were again dispersed by the police. After repeating this in subsequent years, the party was, albeit unofficially, established.
