Starbucks Nabs Simpsons Writers For Animated Shorts [Video]

Starbucks is following up its Upstanders video series with a new project entitled 1st & Main.

The series will consist of animated shorts spanning 60 to 90 seconds and will reportedly focus on Starbucks culture, including the stores, baristas, and customers. However, in this case, the main characters will be animals: a bear named Julie will act as store manager, while Diego the cat works as a barista and beagle named Chet fills the role of a local contractor.

The project is the brainchild of John Frink, Joel H. Cohen and Rob LaZebnik, who may be familiar to some as writers of The Simpsons. LaZebnik described the inspiration behind the project by stating: “Looking around, you can’t help but see the vibe in there – the partners (employees), the regular customers, the flow of morning traffic. We thought we could bring that to life in a really fun way.”

However, for “classic” fans who think The Simpsons stopped being funny during season 9, expectations will likely be low. Whatever the case, the series is expected to debut this Friday on the Starbucks website, mobile app and social media accounts. Check out the trailer below.
